Deoxycholic acid
-
The product
Deoxycholic acid (Belkyra®) is an injectable medication used primarily to treat excess fat under the chin. This treatment can be a non-surgical alternative to submental liposuction for some patients. Unlike fillers and neuromodulators, the results of these injections are permanent. However, 2 or 3 treatments may be required at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks to achieve optimal results.
-
The treatment
No convalescence time is required. However, patients should expect some pain and swelling of the injected area for a few days. Patients may take Tylenol and/or Advil before and after the procedure, if necessary, and apply a cold compress to the treated area.
-
Secondary effects
Pain, redness, bruising, swelling or numbness in the treated area. These side effects are generally temporary and disappear on their own. Possible infection or allergic reaction to the product. Although rare, it is possible for Belkyra to damage nerves in the treated area. Symptoms may include loss of sensation, muscle weakness and temporary paralysis.
Possibility of skin sagging or suboptimal results.

Associated fees
750 / 1 vial (taxes included)
