The neck lift technique
Neck resurfacing can be done by liposuction only. This is possible in young people. This procedure can be combined with a chin implant which will increase the definition of the neck (see section on facial implants). As we age, we develop excess skin that needs to be corrected. For the excision of the skin 2 incisions are possible: A central incision at the level of the neck or another one, more camouflaged, behind the ears. The surgery is usually performed under local anaesthetic with sedation.

Recovery
Rest, raise head, avoid exertion and control pain. Wear the girdle provided. A close follow-up will be done to remove the drains. Use of a soft diet is recommended to reduce jaw pain. Showering is allowed 24-48 hours after surgery as soon as the dressing is removed. Stitches are removed after one week. Gradual return to activities after one week. Make-up will be used the week after surgery to camouflage the bruising which may last on average 2-3 weeks. Physical exercise after 3-4 weeks.

Complications
Bleeding, necrosis of the skin around the incisions, damage to the nerves of expression, reduced skin sensation, facial asymmetry, recurrence of the deformity, visible scars, hair loss in certain areas around the incision and hairline displacement.

The popular belief is that there is nothing to be done about the neck, but this is not true. For this reason, among others, most people camouflage their neck with clothing. Just like the hands, the neck can betray age. There is an effective treatment for this area. The scars are placed behind the ears, which maximizes the camouflage of the ears. Please note: injectable treatments (aesthetic medicine), performed under local anaesthesia, are often not very effective for this part of the body.
