The benefits of Sculptra®
We are pleased to offer our patients treatments with Sculptra® (poly-L-lactic acid), a type of dermal filler used for facial rejuvenation and the treatment of age-related volume loss. Introduced 24 years ago in Europe, it is an injectable treatment that helps stimulate collagen production in the skin, resulting in a more youthful appearance and firmer skin, with a natural result.
Sculptra® works by gradually replacing collagen lost over time. Collagen is an essential protein that gives skin structure and elasticity. As we age, our natural production of collagen diminishes, leading to sagging skin and the appearance of wrinkles and hollows. Sculptra® responds to this phenomenon by stimulating the body's own collagen production process. The temples and lower face (including the nasolabial folds) respond particularly well to this treatment.
Sculptra is composed of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biodegradable and biocompatible substance. When injected into the skin, Sculptra® acts as a stimulant, triggering the production of new collagen. This process takes place gradually, giving a more natural result. For optimal results, two treatments 6 weeks apart are recommended, with an additional treatment if necessary. Results last 2 years or more.
During the procedure, Sculptra® is injected into targeted areas of the face using a cannula or fine needle. A topical anesthetic cream and an anesthetic injection are used for patient comfort.
After treatment, patients may experience temporary redness, swelling or bruising, but these side effects usually disappear within a few days. It's important to follow the post-treatment instructions: massage the injected areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days.
The effects of Sculptra® are not immediate, as the collagen production process takes time. Gradually, over several weeks to months, patients begin to notice an improvement in the texture, firmness and volume of their skin. Results can last up to two years or more, depending on individual factors such as age, lifestyle and the number of treatment sessions received.
